What is ombre hair?
From the French word meaning “to shade”, ombre is a technique where darker tones are introduced to your hair, giving your hair added depth. Through this hair colouring technique, your hair colour gradually blends from one colour at your root through to another at the ends. Ombre is a bolder and more intense technique than Balayage, so is ideal if you are looking for a noticeable colour change or two-tone effect.

It is easy to confuse Ombre and Balayage because they are two low-key looks, both of which involve colour going from dark to light. Ombre is typically done with a lightener being placed horizontally with full saturation of the section and is then blended upward to diffuse the line. Balayage takes smaller sectioning, where the colour will be painted onto the surface of the hair.

Ombre is one of the most low-maintenance colour techniques there is. To make the most of your ombré hair colour, cut back on the number of times you wash your hair. Also, you might want to consider limiting the amount of heat and hot tools you use. For example, when too much heat is used on blond hair, it can actually strip away the colour.
